The common tern
The Common Tern gets its nickname “fish thief” from its incredible fishing skills. These elegant birds hover high above the water and suddenly dive straight down to catch small fish with amazing precision. Common terns are true long-distance travelers. During summer they breed in places like Netherlands and across Europe, but in winter they migrate thousands of kilometers to the coasts of Africa. Even more fascinating: they often recognize the same partner and nesting place year after year. A small bird with an impressive memory and an adventurous spirit!
